“Letter to the parent”
Please read this before bringing your child for the first time to dental visit.
Dear Parent,
Children who have pleasant dental appointments when they are very young are likely to have a favorable outlook toward dental care throughout life. The first appointment is very important in this attitude formation.
That is the reason I am writing to you.
At our first appointment, we will examine your child's teeth and gums
and take any necessary x-ray films. For most children, this will be an
interesting and happy occasion.
All the people on our staff enjoy children and know how to work with them, but you, parents, play an important role in getting children started with a good attitude towards dental care.
One of the useful things that you can do is to be completely natural and easygoing when you tell your child about the appointment with the dentist. This approach enables children to view their dental visit as an opportunity to meet some new people who want to help them stay healthy. Your co-operation is appreciated.
Remember, good general health depends partly on the development of good habits, such as sensible eating, sleeping routines, and exercise. Dental health also depends on good habits, such as proper tooth-brushing, regular dental visits, and a good diet.
We will have a chance to further discuss these points during your child’s appointment.
Sincerely,
Dr Nawale’s DentoCare
Why are baby teeth important?
Baby teeth or milk teeth are important because of the following reasons
1. Chew and eat foods – Children need to eat healthy food every day to grow and be strong for that they need strong, healthy teeth to chew their food.
2. Keep space for adult teeth – Baby teeth hold space for adult teeth growing in the jaw. If the baby tooth is lost too early, other teeth that are already in the mouth will move into the space. It can block out the adult tooth trying to come in and cause crowding. The upper and lower jaws may not meet properly because of the crooked teeth.
3. To stay healthy – Tooth decay in baby teeth can lead to infections that can cause fever and pain. If not treated, can also damage the shape and color of the permanent tooth that is forming just below the baby tooth.
4. To speak clearly and with self-confidence –Children who lose baby teeth too early may have trouble making certain sounds. A child may need speech therapy to improve speech problems. Children with decayed front teeth tend to not smile or may cover their mouth when talking. A healthy smile helps give children the self-confidence to have good social experiences.
What kid’s dental treatments are available at Dr Nawale’s DentoCare?
Kids generally have dental problems like… not erupting permanent tooth, erupting permanent tooth without loss of milk tooth (double tooth), decayed teeth, broken tooth due to any injury, misaligned teeth, thumb sucking, nail-biting, tongue thrusting, mouth breathing and grinding of teeth during the night. What are caries preventive treatments for children?
Prevention is always better than cure, so we provide…
Pit and fissure sealants
The grinding or chewing surfaces of back teeth attract most of the cavities in children. Sealants protect these grooves and pitted surfaces of the teeth. Made of clear or shaded plastic, sealants are applied to the teeth to help keep them cavity-free.
Fluoride Therapy
Fluoride helps to prevent tooth decay. It encourages
remineralization and strengthening of weak areas on the teeth. These weak
areas or white spots are the beginning of cavity formation. Fluoride
application help make the enamel more resistant to tooth decay. It is
delivered through toothpaste, mouthwash, and professional fluoride
application. In the dental office, fluoride application takes around 20
minutes.
What can the parent do?
Inspect your child's teeth regularly for white, yellow, or brown spots which can be signs of decayed teeth. Also, if your child has a toothache or feels pain when eating hot, cold, or sweet foods then you should visit your dentist as early as.
What makes your child cavity-free?
• Brush effectively twice daily (preferably after every meal) with fluoride toothpaste.
• Floss once a day.
• Beware of frequent snacking.
• Regular six-monthly dental visits.
• Have sealants applied when appropriate
• Assure proper fluoride through regular use of fluoride products and fluoride gels and varnishes.
