Bleeding gums are extremely common. More than half of the population has experienced bleeding gums while tooth brushing.

Bleeding gums are the red signs of gum diseases that need to change in our oral health routine.

There are 5 ways to help stop bleeding gums.

1) Brush twice daily for 2 minutes with fluoride toothpaste

Daily twice brushing removes plaque. If the plaque is not removed, it continues to build up potentially leading to tooth decay and gum diseases.

2) Use interdental brushes or floss.

A toothbrush cannot get in between our teeth where inter dental brushes or floss can. So it’s important to clean those areas otherwise pockets of plaque may build up causing gum problems.

3) Use a fluoride mouthwash

Fluoride mouthwash helps to clean our mouth of debris, prevent plaque build-up and kills the bacteria associated with bad breath. Fluoride also gives extra protection to teeth throughout the day.

4) Visiting the dentist

Addressing the problem at the beginning is very important for your bleeding gums. If the plaque and tartar are removed by proper cleaning by the dental team … your oral health is improved definitely.

5) Healthy diet and lifestyle

A diet that is rich in vitamins, minerals, fruits, and vegetables can help us to prevent gum diseases.

Lifestyle factors such as smoking and drinking alcohol also affect mouth health. Smoking causes a lack of oxygen in the bloodstream, so the infected gums don’t get the chance to heal.

It might be easy to overlook bleeding gums and think it’s quite harmless/painless, but ignoring them could end up losing teeth. It could also lead to several other diseases and harm overall well being. Healthy gums are needed to support healthy teeth.
